SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - March 31, 2009) - Cubic Defence New Zealand, an Auckland-based defense subsidiary of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: [ CUB ]), has received a follow-on contract valued at approximately $70 million from an Asia-Pacific customer for a new wireless version of Cubic's widely used laser tactical engagement system. Cubic will deliver multiple lots of the wireless system starting later this year.

Cubic's Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) tracks and records the performance of soldiers and vehicles as they participate in force-on-force training exercises. In 2006, Cubic introduced a new variation of this system that uses a wireless Personal Area Network (PAN) to relay information between soldiers and vehicles.

Cubic said the new wireless technology has attracted interest from other armed forces in the Asia-Pacific region. The new systems are interoperable with previous versions of MILES with industry-standard Radio Frequency (RF) links, and can be integrated with a whole suite of ground combat training instrumentation products, from deployable combat training centers to indoor/outdoor urban training devices.

Cubic Defence New Zealand is part of the defense segment of Cubic Corporation. Cubic is a world leader in realistic combat training systems, mission support services and defense electronics. The corporation's other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
