  • A study of over 250 used electric vehicles (EVs) carried out by an automotive auction house in Australia has found that battery packs last much longer and have reasonably good health even after vehicles have been used extensively.

A recent study has revealed that electric vehicle (EV) batteries retain approximately 90% of their health even after accumulating 75,000 miles, challenging the common belief that EV batteries degrade quickly. This research, which analyzed data from over 15,000 Nissan Leafs, found that the rate of battery degradation is much slower than previously thought, with batteries losing only about 2.3% of their capacity per year. This finding suggests that EV batteries could have a longer lifespan than expected, potentially reducing concerns about the cost and environmental impact of battery replacements. The study also highlights the potential for these batteries to be repurposed for secondary uses like energy storage, further extending their utility beyond their initial automotive application.
